About the club

Our sections

Bedale is a members' club first and foremost, and much of its life happens in its sections. Whether you want competitive team golf across Yorkshire and the North East, a friendly roll-up with drawn partners, or a gentle way into the game, there is a group here for you, and every one of them goes out of its way to welcome new members.

Men's section

All gentlemen members

The Men's Section is a member of the Harrogate and District Union of Golf Clubs, a union of twelve clubs that gives our members team and individual competitions across every handicap range throughout the year.

We are also part of the Dales Alliance, which brings friendly competitive golf in the spring and autumn, and we play annual friendly matches against our neighbouring clubs. At home there is a full programme of strokeplay and matchplay competitions all year round.

Regular golf

  • Thursday Stableford – a weekly Stableford competition. Members book their own tee times.

Ladies' section

Active & growing

The Ladies' Section has doubled in size from 40 to 80 members, and it is proud to be a friendly one. The committee makes a point of welcoming new members and introducing them around, so no one is ever left out or without a partner.

Wednesday is our friendly competition day, with weekend competitions organised for members who work. Whatever your ability, there is social, friendly and competitive golf on offer.

Here Come the Girls

Our coaching programme for women taking up the game, now in its third season. More than 100 ladies have taken part and over 20 have gone on to become full members.

  • Weekly group sessions, daytime or evening
  • Affordable lessons built around the basics
  • All equipment provided, no experience needed

Seniors' section

Members aged 55+

An active and sociable group for members aged 55 and over, with a warm welcome for new and existing club members alike. Golfers of every handicap are encouraged to take part.

From April we play seventeen friendly fixtures against clubs across Yorkshire and County Durham, all at excellent courses and each followed by a meal. Think of it as a reward for being older and retired.

The seniors' year

  • Tuesday roll-up – fun team games with drawn partners
  • Friday roll-up – individual qualifiers
  • Captain's away day competition
  • Annual dinner in November with prize presentation, partners invited

Juniors' section

The future of the club

Our juniors are an integral part of Bedale Golf Club, with the same benefits as every other member and an identity of their own. Tee times are reserved for juniors on most Saturday mornings for competitions or a casual round.

Beginners play alongside handicapped juniors so they can qualify for a handicap quickly. Group coaching with Head Coach Steve Pearce runs on Saturdays and in the school holidays.

Junior golf at Bedale

  • Weekly friendly competitions and casual rounds
  • A junior team in the Harrogate and District League, with matches against clubs including Ilkley and Thirsk
  • Annual singles and pairs knockouts
  • Presentation evening every December

Rabbits' section

Handicap Index 15.0+

The Rabbits are for gentlemen members with a World Handicap System index above 15.0. The section is a great way for new members to settle in quickly and make friends through weekend and weekday golf.

We compete through HARGA, NERGA and YRGA, the Harrogate Area, North East and Yorkshire Rabbits Golf Associations. NERGA league matches are played at weekends in teams of eight across North Yorkshire and the North East, with other fixtures against Harrogate, Scarborough North Cliff, Catterick, Masham, Wetherby, Easingwold and Knaresborough.

The rabbits' calendar

  • February: two club challenges and the AGM
  • Around 16 summer matches
  • Autumn Stableford, end of September
  • Peter Durrans Perpetual Trophy (singles knockout)
  • Robert Riggs Trophy (pairs)
  • Charity Ryder Cup match
  • Armstrong Millennium Rose Bowl (two-day away trip)
  • Annual match against the Club Captain's team

Plenty of banter and laughter. Members call it some of the most enjoyable times of their golfing life.
