The Benefits

The Flexible Membership (FM) Scheme is available for those golfers who prefer the flexibility of playing golf at any time of the day but cannot justify a full membership. The scheme is also attractive to those who may wish to take up the game on a low-cost, trial basis.

Scheme members will have playing privileges (but not voting rights) and can also buy discounted drinks at the bar on the same basis as Full Members.

Should you wish to upgrade to Full Membership this can be done at any time and a full credit will be allowed for points unused. The FM year is tailored to individual Members in running from the date of their joining for 12 months. Up to 50 unused points at the end of the Member’s year can be carried forward for 3 months provided that the following year’s FM fee has been paid.

As a Flexible Member you can obtain a handicap in the normal manner by submitting three cards to the Competitions Secretary. You can then play in monthly, mid–week and weekend Medal and Stableford competitions and on invitation days.

You can join the Ladies, Seniors and Rabbits sections and represent the Club through these sections - and the Club itself - in friendly competitions against other clubs. You will not, however, be eligible to play in those Club competitions for which there is a permanent trophy or in the annual medal finals competition.

What does it cost?

The annual FM fee is £200, which buys 275 points to be used according to the table below. Top up points can be purchased at any time. £50 buys 75 points and £100 buys 155 points.

Scheme points can be used on the following basis:

Summer Golf (1st April to 31st October 2013

Monday to Friday – Peak 20 points; Off Peak - 15 points Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays – Peak 24 points; Off Peak 15 points.

Winter Golf (1st January to 30th March 2013 and 1st November 2013 to 31st March 2014)

Monday to Friday – Peak 16 points; Off Peak - 10 points
Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays – Peak 20 points.

Off Peak - 12 points. Off Peak times vary throughout the year on a monthly basis and start approximately 5¼ hours before dusk. Peak times start from first light and run until Off Peak times start.

How it works

You will be allowed full access to the Club’s computerised tee booking system to reserve tee times on the same basis as Full Members. The FM scheme operates on an honour system: Scheme Members must notify the Professional each time they play and ensure that points used are recorded in their own FM Points Account. Failure to do so will result in the loss of all points purchased.

Scheme points are personal to the Member and are not transferable; however Flexible Members can sign in guests on a maximum of three occasions in any 12 month period and use their FM points provided that they play with their guests.

The Club intends to limit the number of Members admitted under the scheme and it is expected that many Flexible Members will upgrade over time to Full Membership. Time allowed on the scheme may, therefore, be limited.

For a Flexible Membership application form or for information about joining the Club as a Full or Second Club Member please ring the Secretary, Mike Mayman on 01677 422451 or The Professional, Tony Johnson on 01677 422443.

Why Bedale?

Because we’re a quality course in the beautiful setting of ‘Herriot Country’, with an enviable location – just off the A1(M), within an hour of Leeds and Newcastle and in easy reach of Greater Manchester via the Motorways.

Bedale Members are proud of our fantastic course, which has evolved over the years, and we welcome the opportunity to share our rural gem. Our green fees are always competitive and we can offer tailor-made, flexible packages for visitors, be they individuals, couples, parties or corporate clients. We look forward to seeing you in the future; see below how to contact us.

The Course

The course gained County recognition when selected for an important Yorkshire event in 2009. Principally 18th Century parkland, with wide, well-drained fairways, mature trees and water on seven of the 18 holes, Bedale offers easy walking within the scenic delights of Lower Wensleydale. Whatever your handicap, Bedale will give you a memorable day out.

Catering

The bar and restaurant are in the safe hands of an experienced chef and former publican who once cooked for The Queen. He offers a good value, flexible menu, ranging from bar meals via a carvery to gourmet cuisine. A full range of beers and wines is available, including hand-pulled local bitter.

Facilities

With a relaxing drink in hand, savour the long-range views of the Wensleydale hills from our sun-trap of a verandah, which can comfortably accommodate 40 guests. It forms part of the recently- upgraded Clubhouse, which also features refurbished locker rooms, a discrete restaurant and a fully-stocked pro shop. There’s also plenty of parking at Bedale, on a proper Tarmac surface.

Bedale’s Dan Brown is the new Yorkshire Amateur Champion.
Dan, grandson of both Bedale President Thompson Brown and Club Member Alan Whelan, has been part of the young team which has propelled Bedale into the limelight in the past season or two, winning county and regional titles. His prowess has been recognised at the highest level as he was selected to play for the England Boys team in the quadrilateral match with Ireland, Wales & Scotland.
Captain's Charities
Golfers at Bedale energetically applied themselves last year to raise a grand total of £1940.50p for their Captain's charities. The funds were earmarked for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, and this week a cheque was presented by last year's Captains Lewis Grant and Sheila Philips to YAA Regional Fundraising Manager Tony Doveston in an informal ceremony in the Clubhouse. Bedale Ladies

The sixth and final round of the competition was played at Otley and at the start of the day Bedale narrowly led the field by 8 points after the first 5 rounds. They held their nerve to finish with an accumulated total of 522pts. Otley finished second with 504pts, overtaking Harrogate who finished 3rd with 502pts.
